We had been to Phuket/Patong twice before (first time 6mths after the tsunami then 12 months later with the children) This time it was noticably seedier, not a major issue as we planned to stay close to the pool.
The first day’s weather was OK but we didn’t do much as we were still getting over flight, then from the second day the pool focus changed from swimming pools to knee deep pools of water in the streets.
The adjoining rooms at Poppa’s Palace were nice but the swimming pool was just OK and spa YUK so on the second day had a scout around for another place to stay. We found “The Chambre” a newish mini hotel with access to pool across the street (which we never used) just off the top end of Bangla Rd and handy to Big C and the Jungceylon shopping mall. we got 2 neighbouring rooms, one for us with a view and one for Georgia with a view of the neighbouring building about a 2 meters away!
Ended up raining for the rest of the time we were in Phuket, so spent our time roaming the street dodging showers shopping and looking for places to eat. Checked out the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch one day with Georgia shooting some basketball hoops, and really enjoyed dinner at the little “No6” resturant on the main street a couple of times.
Disappointed about the weather and now in no hurry to return to Patong, and with no photos to document our stay, we are heading home via a stop over in Singapore for 2 nights.
