We had three nights at this seaside city. We did a day bus trip down from Goreme which was great. We went on a short boat trip around the coastline and looked back at the city. We visited the museum that had amazing exhibits from all the different eras here. And finally we decided to splash out and take a Turkish Bath (Hamam). We were apprehensive at first, but quite enjoyed the ancient ritual which dates back to the 13th century. You steam first on heated marble slabs, then are doused with water both very hot and cold! Then you are ‘peeled’ with an abrasive glove to remove all the dead skin cells. Particularly good after a month in Nepal – where showers were rare! 🙂 You are then rinsed again and then are ‘soaped’. It was like being at a car wash. Loads of bubbles everywhere. The final rinse happened and then you were massaged, and put back on the marble to dry out. It was really refreshing and we felt great afterwards. It was completed by a young man who spoke little English, and wore his Billabong boardies – and was not afraid to splash water everywhere!
