After spending time in Agadir, we thought that we should make our way up the coast to Essaouira. However, there was a problem: the only bus left Agadir at 9:30am, and there was no way we would be organised enough to catch it. So, using our brains it was decided that we should take the local bus up to a place called Taghazout, then catch the bus from there at a later time the next day. So we caught this local bus, and made our way to the fishing-gone-surfing village of Taghazout, with our accommodation pre-organised (or so we thought). Turns out that where we had planned to stay was out of budget, AND, to dad’s horror, didn’t have wifi. So we began on the adventure of trying to find reasonable accommodation, with a reasonable price and reasonable wifi. Sound reasonably easy? Think again. All that we could find were apartments that are designed for week-long surfing trips, not one-night stopovers. Exhausted, we found a cute little cafe to have lunch (with an extremely rare english menu!!) and soon discovered that it was a hotel, and, much to my delight, also part of the premier surf school, Surf Maroc. Because it was cheap, we stayed there in two cute rooms overlooking Hash Point, and, because it was one of my goals for this trip, I enrolled in a surf lesson.
So , the next day, I got up before 8 (amazing!), and had brekkie downstairs before being picked up by my instructor for the day, Safi. Unfortunately, the waves were crap, even after travelling around 30kms to try and find some good ones. So we had a choice of what to do: either go back and visit the Souq in Agadir, or, much more appealing, go take a look at Paradise Valley. We chose the latter. It was an hours drive to get there and a 20 min walk to get to ‘paradise’, well worth it as there was a cold pool which was nice and refreshing to have a dip in 🙂 we chilled here for about an hour and a half before deciding to go back and check the surf. Lets just say that it was good surf for beginners 🙂 so i hopped on my board, hit the water then fell off again almost immediately.
