A New Continent

Disembarking the plane and walking across the tarmac to the terminal at Agadir Airport, it definitely felt like we were in Africa with a warm southerly blowing through. By passing the “Grand Taxis” (old Mercs) waiting outside the airport we headed off to find the local bus. I’m sure this was our first scam as the taxi drivers outside the airport gates told us there was no more buses that day, but the price was right (120MAD about half way between the airport taxis 2-250MAD and the bus fare 20MAD) and got us directly to our Hotel.

The Suite Hotel Tilila turned out to be a great spot with a nice pool outside our window, a big room, and a day just to chill. A great dinner on the waterfront with local music and the Italian National Soccer Final to watch. Eating on a budget, it is always nice when your expectations are exceeded which it was at the restaurant that we found.

Next stop Essaouria, but decided to go via Taghazout (the Surfing Capital/Raglan of Morocco) as we were not organised to catch the 8:00am bus direct to Essaouria.

After being hassled by accomodation touts in Taghazout, we opted for a lunch break at a seaside Cafe (Cafe Auberge in front of the Fish Market). We then booked into the the Hotel above the Cafe. The place is also associated with a surf school. Georgia is now out somewhere up the coast having her first lesson for the day, and some time away from us. Our one night stay has extended to two. We have been told that it only rains here about 2-3 times a year.
